Information collected by RSA
To provide you with online commercial insurance products and related services, RSA collects certain personal information about you when you enter details on the RSA Motor Insurance Database section of the website. This information may include, but is not limited to, name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and work details.
When you view the website by hypertext link from another website or when you hypertext link to another website from this site, RSA may store the names of such websites for its own internal administration.
We have designed our internet site to provide maximum flexibility for our customers. To build in this capability, we have used an internet identification and tracking tool, called a 'cookie'.
A 'cookie' is a small piece of information that a website sends to your web browser, or stores in your computer's memory, so that it can identify you. 'Cookies' are a robust and frequently-used part of internet infrastructure. A 'cookie' cannot be used to get data from your computer's memory, get your email address or steal sensitive information about you or your company. Any sensitive information about you or your business transactions are held securely on the relevant database, and not on the 'cookie'.
In order to access the RSA Motor Insurance Database website you must allow 'cookies' to be used as they are an essential part of the site design. Without this 'cookie' you will need to log in and out of the site between pages. This is because when using a website, each request for a web page is independent of all other requests, so the web page server has no memory of who you are or what pages you have been shown. It is important part of our site security to identify you as an authorised user of the RSA Motor Insurance Database website.
We have included this summary about 'cookie' as part of our policy of open communication with customers and to reassure you about the technology we have used to build our website. We reserve the right to use other tracking technologies in the future, as appropriate. We, or our third party advertisers, may also use 'cookie' to monitor the effectiveness of any advertising on the site.
How do we process information/third party access to information?
Your policy details will be added to the Motor Insurance Database (MID) run by the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB). This may be consulted by the police in order to establish who is insured to drive the vehicle. If you or any of the drivers using your vehicles are involved in an accident (in the UK or abroad), other UK insurers, the Motor Insurers' Bureau may search the MID to ascertain relevant policy information. Persons with a valid claim in respect of a road traffic accident (including citizens of other countries) may also obtain relevant information which is held on the MID.
We may send your information to other companies for processing on our behalf. Some of these companies may be based outside Europe in countries which may not have laws to protect personal data, but in all cases we will ensure that it is kept securely and only used for the purposes for which you provided it. Details of the companies and countries involved can be provided to you on request.
Any calls that you make to us may be recorded and monitored for the purposes of our business management training and security.
Anonymised or aggregated data may be used by us, or disclosed for research/statistical purposes only to RSA group companies.
Information may only be disclosed to the appropriate enforcement agencies or authorities with a view to preventing fraudulent or improper use.
How we protect your information
The Internet is not a secure medium. However we take security issues very seriously and abide by strict internal standards. Some of the relevant security procedures are described in this policy.
We capture certain information relating to you and your business such as your name and address, and details relating to your insurance cover, over a secure link using recognised industry standard techniques which encrypt the data while travelling over the internet. We have installed a mechanism which ensures that there is an encrypted private connection between you and RSA, commonly referred to as SSL, that uses digital server identities to help assure you that the website you access is the RSA Motor Insurance Database website. This is done using a service run by Verisign Inc. a well known certification system technology provider. When you access any pages which involve the transmission of confidential information over the internet, your browser will be provided with an electronic certificate confirming that you have accessed our site and these communications between you and RSA will be encrypted. You are recommended to use the facilities of your browser to confirm which pages are secured in this way.
Firewalls are used to block unauthorised traffic to the system servers and the servers themselves are located in a secure facility which can only be accessed by authorised personnel.
We also aim to keep your information confidential. RSA internal procedures cover the storage, access and disclosure of your information.
Please ensure you keep your user ID and password confidential and remember to log out when not using the site to prevent unauthorised access.
Data protection rights
You have the right to request a copy of the information held by us about you on payment of a small fee by you and you also have the right to request us to change any inaccuracies in such information.
